This is the Catholic Church in the 49th State, where some communities wait a year or more for a priest to celebrate the sacraments.

About the Western Dominican Province
We have been called to proclaim the Gospel to every corner of the world, so that all souls may come to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ.
The Province of the Most Holy Name of Jesus, commonly referred to as the Western Dominican Province, was founded in 1850 during the California Gold Rush.
From the very beginning, the territory of the Western Dominican Province has been in great need of evangelization and missionary activity.
Our original purpose was to help bring the Catholic faith to a rapidly growing population on the frontier of the American West. And while the population continues to grow, the challenges today are a bit different.
Preaching on the frontier now includes addressing the rise of secularism, atheism, concern over technological innovations, and religious apathy, as well as ministering in extraordinary mission territory such as Alaska, home to the two largest geographic dioceses in the United States.
Mission Alaska highlights the efforts of our friars on the frontier in Alaska, as well as the heroic work of other priests, religious, and devoted laity throughout the Dioceses of Fairbanks and Anchorage-Juneau.
Together, we’re preaching the Gospel to Catholic communities scattered across the rugged and beautiful terrain of the Last Frontier.
